St Martin’s Institute of Higher Education
St Martin’s Institute of Higher Education is a licensed (License No: 196) private tertiary education institution by the National Commission for Further and Higher Education of Malta, offering a range of MQF Level 5 diploma and Level 6 & 7 degrees in computer and social sciences conferred by the University of London. St Martin’s was set up in 1985, and started supporting programmes offered through the University of London International in the year 2000.
St Martin’s has established itself as a unique teaching institution in Malta based upon a commitment of quality education. This has been confirmed through a track record of excellent results in these past years, culminating in 70% of graduating students of 2006 attaining a first class honours, with two students receiving three academic awards between them. The previous two years also were a success story with 50% graduating at first class honours.
It is imperative to put things in perspective. Malta is the smallest European Union member country, with a total population of just over four hundred thousand, with, though one of the oldest Universities established by the Knights of St John in the 16th century. The competition for students is thus very arduous and the success being gained by St Martin’s graduates is having a marked effect on opening up the tertiary education sector in Malta, from a veritable monopoly into a pluralistic environment which will have a positive effect on the population of Malta.
Thousands of international students are attracted to Malta to study English every year, and a number of these students are choosing St Martin’s to read for the qualifications offered through the University of London rather than go back to their home country. This augurs well for the future of the institute, and the University of London International Programmes in Malta.
Birmingham Ormiston Academy is an independent state-funded 14-19 Academy specialising in Creative, Digital and Performing Arts. BOA is sponsored by Ormiston Trust and Birmingham City University.
The Academy opened in September 2011 in a brand-new landmark building, located at the hub of the digital and creative industries in the West Midlands. It has superb facilities for academic, vocational and extra-curricular activities.
BOA is one hundred percent selective based on aptitude within the specialisms, and is unique in both its admissions and approach to education. The academy aims to be at the forefront of the development of the arts and creative industries.
Outstanding teaching coupled with constant support and guidance underpins the students’ personalised learning experiences. The curriculum is designed to develop the specific identified talents, gifts and potential of each student whilst providing an excellent general education. The creative, digital and performing arts are at the core of our teaching and learning and contribute to the whole curricular experience.
We aim to develop the whole person academically, vocationally, socially and morally. We offer a wide range of academic, extra-curricular and vocational courses. Individualising our students’ learning pathways is key to cultivating our approach to learning. It is our aim that they leave BOA as independent, knowledgeable, skilled, responsible and creative young people with the relevant academic and vocational qualifications to go onto further and higher education or into the world of work.
Encompassing a full range of vocational, traditional and enrichment courses, our students have the opportunity to indivdualise their learning pathways. Gaining qualifications accepted by universities or career specific courses related to areas within the creative industry sector.
Together with our founding partners, Maverick TV and the BRIT School, we have numerous creative, business and industry partners. They offer high levels of support, investment, expertise and opportunities for both students and the academy.
Although located in the heart of Birmingham. BOA is a regional academy admitting students from Birmingham and the Local Authorities of Coventry, Dudley, Solihull, Sandwell, Walsall and Wolverhampton. Ten per cent of students are also admitted from outside the West Midlands.
