Wood Set Design for the Film and Television Industries

The course content will include, but is not limited to, the following areas:

  • The creative shortcuts that can be used to build very short term, fake constructions as cheaply, but as safely, as possible
  • How carpentry skills will be adapted to the need of the film industry.
  • Understanding complex drawings, specifications and technical literature
  • The Health and Safety requirements when working with tools.
  • The responsibility in view of producing a variety of structures
  • How to carry out of off-screen building

Course Wood Set Design for the Film and Television Industries

This course will aim to help participants build fake constructions as cheaply, but as safely, as possible; adapt carpentry skills to the film industry; understand complex drawings, specifications, technical literature and Health & Safety requirements when working with tools;  produce a variety of structures and carry out off-screen building.

Learning Outcomes To introduce you to the construction & carpentry skills needed in the film and television industries plus the associated health & safety requirements.
Allocated hours 50 contact hours.  Equivalent to 2 ECTS/ECVET Credits (1 ECTS/ECVET credit = 25 hours)
Assessment Method An assignment brief will be used to assess this Unit.
The hours above are a combination of contact, self-study, hands-on and assessment  hours
3 hours for group reflection and discussion including evaluation, plus 1 hour for individual tutorial for feedback and assessment.
